Estates and manor houses

Not only the castles and palaces are remarkable in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, so too are the many estates and manor houses that dot the landscape between green hills, thick forests and lush meadows. Fans of historical buildings and picturesque parks as well as architecture enthusiasts will be in their element here. Many country homes are protected as monuments and open to visitors. It is also possible to spend a holiday in the historical buildings.

For example, manor house Stolpe, situated in the heart of an extensive park with magnolias, hortensias and acacia trees, has been hosting guests since 1996. The grounds also include two restaurants.

Estates in the baroque style can also be found in Müritz; manor house Ludorf is an impressive building from the 17th century, which has been welcoming guests for many years as a romantic hotel.

The example set by the Sösemann family shows that it is possible to run a holiday residence and also find a new home in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The family moved from Berlin into manor house Pohnstorf at the edge of Mecklenburg Switzerland and took over a manor house from the 19th century. Surrounded by idyllic nature and away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, the family created a new life for themselves here.

Those who would like to set their eyes on the many beautiful manor houses are sure to enjoy the MittsommerRemise, which takes place every year in mid-June: for one weekend at the summer solstice, the interested public are invited to visit a range of estates and manor houses. The varied programme – from coach rides to musical events or exhibitions – offers many memorable experiences.
